Addressing cyber security risk within the Jamaican tourism sector

In February 2019, the Jamaica Gleaner published an article about the launch of a Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona campus.

  • The Centre will help to address the risk of cyber crime within the tourism industry.
  • The initiative to create the center was motivated by the 2017 Global Tourism Conference which asked for support from the government, private sector, donors, and international and regional organisations.
  • Some additional risk facing tourism are both natural made-made, such as climate change, epidemics, pandemics, and terrorism.
  • The Centre will be executing at least ten (10) activities towards promoting mitigation and resilience and is being led by Edmund Bartlett, the current Minister of Tourism at the time of the article.
